I began my lifestyle change after sickness & receiving a different diagnosis from all 8 or so of my "ologists". To name a few of the conditions I was diagnosed with - on the first round: Mitral Valve Prolapse, PAT (Paroxismal Atrial Tachycardia), Heart Murmor, Gastritis, Chrone's Disease, Gastritis, & "possible" Multiple Sclerosis. Second round of testing revealed: Adrenal Exhaustion, Uterine Fibroids, Multiple Food Sensitivites ( basically anything that was edible), Chemical Sensitivites. It didn't surprise me in the least that I had food allergies too numerous to count because anything I tried to eat within hours resulted in gasping & wheezing for air or swelling up with hives. My endocrinologist after reviewing the results of the many tests run on my adrenal glands, gave me "good" news. There were no tumors found on my adrenal glands, but now they suspected a tumor somewhere else in my endocrine system. He intended to look deeper into this system since he knew that my blood work showed very abnormal levels of cortisol. They pituitary gland was to be the next part of me studied. I was a nurse & I knew what "studying" the pituitary gland could entail. I decided it was time for me to search for another path to better health.
A few months after starting my new healthy lifestyle, I received 2 more diagnosises: Bronchitis & last of all...Asthma. I began my journey in the area of diet. This was my first choice since there was little that I could eat that did not cause the Chrone's Disease, hives, gastritis, bronchitis, or asthma to flair up.
Another reason I approached my health issue with diet changes first was because some medications I had been prescribed listed weight gain as a side effect & I was most definitely a recipient of that effect! I was amazed at all the diets I had to choose from!!
After trying many of these diets/weight loss programs such as:

I decided that there HAD TO BE A BETTER WAY!
And much to my relief, THERE WAS!!!
I feel I have had enough life experiences, when it comes to diets, to be able to share my thoughts with you on this subject. I am now 50# lighter than I was when my Lifestyle Change began and that weight has remained off for quite sometime. I did reach plateaus throughout my weight loss period but these were temporary. Many people told me that I never looked terribly overweight, and never looked fat. Thanks, that was sweet, but all that mattered to me was how I felt and how my clothes fit. My journey is far from over...I still intend to lose more weight & continue to maintain & improve my health. I will say that some of these diets were very helpful to me in various stages of my journey. In the beginning I found these to be of great help:

To this day I still use some of these diets in combination or use alone for short periods at a time. I also do some fasting and/or clear liquid days.

The few times that I find myself feeling extremely bad seem to indicate that I need some type of detox. Over the years I have done system specific detoxes such as kidney, colon, or liver. There were times when I did a general detox program. These times always made me take a look at my current food patterns, too. Inevitably, I would simplfy my eating patterns by using the LIQUID DIET, the JUICING DIET, or PLANT BASED DIET. By choosing one of these diets I was able to take some of the load off my digestive system. It is sooo much easier for your body to digest liquids, vegetable & fruit smoothies, and plant based foods than to digest meats, heavy sauces & gravies, highly processed foods & foods loaded with chemical laden additives! WHEN YOU ARE SICK YOU WANT YOUR BODY TO HAVE EVERY ADVANTAGE TO HEAL ITSELF. YOU DO NOT WANT IT TO HAVE TO SPEND HOURS & HOURS ON DIGESTING THE HARDEST FOODS TO DIGEST - YOU WANT IT TO BUILD & REPAIR ITSELF! GIVE YOURSELF THE IMPORTANT NUTRITION THAT IS EASIEST TO DIGEST!
BEFORE STARTING A DIET, FAST OR CLEANSE, BE SURE TO CHECK WITH YOUR PHYSICIAN. YOUR PHYSICIAN IS UP TO DATE ON YOUR SITUATION AND SHOULD KNOW HOW A FAST, CLEANSE, OR DIET ADJUSTMENT WILL INTERACT WITH YOUR PRESENT CONDITIONS!!
